Appearance: Pure sodium sulfide is colorless crystalline powder. Industrial sodium sulfide is light yellow flakes.

Solubility: Soluble in water, insoluble in ether, slightly soluble in ethanol,

The aqueous solution is strong alkalinous, easily oxidized when exposing to air. Toxic.

Application: Used for making sulfur dyes and sulfide, as an agent in ore flotation,  and other chemical compounds etc.
